Looking on the Findmypast site, there is a family called Scott in both the 1901 and 1911 census who lived in Hook, Goole. The father, William and his son Joseph are listed as Carpenter, Joiner. They lived in Village St. There are no others with the surname Scott listed as residing in Hook so I reckon this is the family. Mrs Scott was an Emily.
Emily Scott was born Emily Jackson, so maybe she was a sister/ otherwise related to Mary (Polly??) Jackson, the lady who was a servant to Elizabeth from Walton le Dale?
Thanks to Eve Chester for looking things up on the Findmypast website.
I think the family of Elizabeth Holden and linked Scott/Jackson family deserve a novel. I learnt via the various census records James and Elizabeth also acquire 180 and 182 Victoria Rd over time and in 1911 daughters Winifred ( at 17!) and Evelyn (12) take over running of (part of?) the drapers’ shop aided by Mary Jackson at 182. (The 1911 census has James and Elizabeth on their own at 172). By 1921, Winifred has moved out and a young male lodger, James Kay, has moved in with the Holden family (now all under 1 roof)…and , by 1939, Elizabeth is a widow at 1 Church Brow living with Evelyn who, lo and behold, yes, had married the lodger. They have a young son too. Plus.. the good and faithful Mary Jackson is still part of the household!!! She was obviously able to shake off whatever dire thing ailed her in 1907.
I haven’t been able to trace eldest daughter, Winifred’s whereabouts. Incidentally both Evelyn and Winifred had Gregson as a middle name, this originating from their mother’s maiden name. Plenty there if anyone wants to research further!
