A WOMAN KILLED AT WHITTLE. – A carriage accident, attended with fatal consequences, occurred at Whittle on Monday evening. It appears that on the morning of that day, Mr. and Mrs. Wilding, of the Dog Inn, Black-leach, Brindle, along with Mr. John Woodruff, beerseller, of Lostock, and Mr. John Whittaker, of Todd Hall Farm, Walton-le-Dale, went to Chorley in a shandray belonging to the latter. They were returning home about seven o’clock, and having no lights with them they were unable to see anything on the side of the road. When they had proceeded a short distance past Shaw Hill Lodge Gates, Whittle-le-Woods, the conveyance ran against a heap of broken stones on the road side and was upset, all its occupants being thrown to the ground. Mrs. Wilding was taken up insensible and carried into the house of Mr. Thomas Jolly. Dr. Crook, of Chorley, was sent for, but Mrs. Wilding died before his arrival, baving sustained fatal internal injuries. Whittaker, who was the driver, was the worse for liquor, but not so as to render him incapable of managing the horse. An inquest was held on the body of Mrs. Wilding, who was 32 years of age, at the Dog Inn, Brindle, on Wednesday, before Mr. M. Myres, coroner, when a verdict of “Accidental death” was returned by the jury.
