The Walton-le-Dale Wesleyan Band of Hope Society was a local chapter of the Band of Hope, a prominent British temperance movement organization aimed at children and young people. Founded nationally in Leeds in 1847, the movement grew exponentially during the Victorian era.

WALTON-LE-DALE WESLEYAN BAND OF HOPE SOCIETY.-On Thursday evening an open-air temperance meeting was held under the auspices of the above Society at the bottom of Church Brow. There was a Large crowd of people present, and the chair was occupied by Mr. James Ward. A capital speech was made by Mrs. Smith, of Burnley, upon temperance subjects, the audience being very attentive.
