RIBBLE BRIDGE. 1778.

Manchester Quarter Session, July 23, 1778.
RIBBLE BRIDGE.
WHEREAS the INHABITANTS of the County of LANCASTER, were indicted at the last General Court of Quarter Session, held at Preston, for not Repairing, Widening, and Enlarging the said Bridge, which is situate over the River Ribble, in the Townships of Walton-in-le-dale and Fishwick, upon the great Turnpike Road, lading from Preston to Wigan: And whereas it being represented to this Court, that the said Bridge is in such a ruinous decayed State, and so very insufficient, that it is absolutely necessary, that the same, should, at all Events, be immediately widened and repaired; and that it may probably require taking down and rebuilding, in which case, some doubts may arise as to a place proper for erecting a New Bridge, in order to make the same as useful and commodious as possible to the Public; and it being further reported to this Court, that able and experienced Workmen will be forthwith procured to view and examine the said Bridge, and to prepare Plans of the Work, and Estimates of the Expence of what they shall conceive necessary to be done about the said Bridge, and also signify their Opinion as to its State, Condition and Situation, in such manner as shall be required at the Time hereafter appointed.

This is to give NOTICE
That all Persons interested intended Work, are desired to attend at the House of Mr. Reynolds, the King’s-Arms, in Lancaster, on Monday the 31st Day of August next, at Ten o’Clock in the Morning, to which Time and Place the Quarter Session is intended and will be adjourned, in order that the Sentiments of the Gentlemen of the County, assembled at the Assizes, and others concerned in this publick Work, who may think proper to attend, may be had upon this Occasion.
