BRAVE DEEDS REWARDED.

Among recent recipients of the medal of the Royal Humane society none more richly deserved it than Edward Briggs, of Ribbleside farm, Walton-le-Dale. Mr. Briggs, who already holds the Sосіеtу’ѕ certificate for saving life, signalised him self a short time ago by rescuing a woman who, tired of the battle of life, threw herself into the Ribble, where the stream is 70 yards wide and 10ft. deep. The river being in flood, owing to recent rain, there was a strong current, which soon carried her out from the bank. On being called Briggs responded by plunging in, and, after a desperate struggle, in the course of which he was carried 50 yards down stream, reached the bank with the now unconscious woman, where he at once used artificial respiration, and in 20 minutes was successful.
