Walton le Dale Pub History

The Yew Tree Inn at Walton-le-Dale

There have been a number of pages recently published tracing the history of the Public Houses in and around Walton le Dale. These are now included on the excellent Chorley’s Inns and Taverns website. The list is as follows:

“Why are then on the Chorley’s Inns and Taverns website?”, is possibly a question that you would ask? Whilst the website (hosted on blogger – blogspot.com) is, or at least started as, a project about the public houses of Chorley in Lancashire, it covers much of the Chorley and South Ribble boroughs. I reached out to the author, to ask if he would consider included Walton le Dale as well. At the time, I had noticed that some of the Bamber Bridge establishments were already included. I was speaking to another local historian, Peter Smith, who writes the Preston History website and runs the Preston History Facebook group – that he set up – with me. We were considering filling in the gap for the area, both being local to it. However, we both have many other things that we are involved with, so finding the time to do the research required was difficult. The reason I say that there is a ‘gap’ is that there is also another website/blog that follows a very similar format, which covers all the establishments that have ever been in Preston. This is namely “PRESTON’S INNS, TAVERNS and BEERHOUSES“, by Steve Halliwell, who is a Preston historian known for his research and publications on the pubs of Preston. He’s the author of “Preston Pubs,” a book exploring the history of the city’s public houses.
