IT has long been matter of surprise that the commercial and populous town of Preston should not possess an Establishment for the Insurance of Property against Loss by Fire, with a local proprietary, mutually interested in its welfare and success, and willing to secure as well the permanent interests of the proprietors as that of the public.
That Preston is peculiarly adapted for a society of this description, is manifest from the fact that the amount of loss sustained by fire, for the last fifteen years, does not average £1,000 per annum.
It is, therefore, proposed to found a Society, to be called the Preston Fire and Life Insurance Association, under the provisions of the recent Act of Parliament, for the regulation of Joint Stock Companies; and that such Society, whilst it will secure to the shareholders a reasonable amount of profit, is intended to offer to the public the full advantage of the system of mutual assurance, by adopting a moderate fixed premium.

A Deed of Settlement will be prepared, with a view to comprehend all the requisite clauses in connexion with the above-mentioned Act, and to secure the objects above alluded to.
The Act of Parliament for registration of Insurance Companies does not allow more than ten shillings per cent. of capital to be called for until the full registration of the Company. A deposit, therefore, of two shillings per shard can only he received on the allotment.
A call of eighteen shillings per share will be made on the complete registration, and a further sum of one pound at the expiration of two months.
Persons desirous of becoming Subscribers are requested to make application, by letter, to Messrs. BICKERSTAFF, SON, and MYRES, Solicitors, Preston, in the form below.
A preference will be given to persons undertaking to effect Insurances with the Company.
FORM OF APPLICATION.

I request you will allot me Shares in the Preston Fire and Life Insurance Company; and I undertake to accept that, or any less number, pay the deposit thereon, and execute the Deed of Settlement when requested.
